After seeing those teaser images from the next Spiderverse movie at cinemacon I instantly got hyped for the next movie. Of course the algorithm knew this and I randomly ran across this amazing concept by @alexgarnerart . I immediately was inspired to put my spin on it as an attempt to #dtiys .
The challenge was I wanted to make this a quick project that would only take a couple of days and I wanted to match the concept as much as possible by blending 2D and 3D elements. Sure, this could all be achieved with a hand painted 2d unlit approach but I wanted to have a little more fun and leverage 3D elements to achieve the final look. Overall time, 27 hours from Zbrush to final presentation.
I painted the model as closely as I could in substance after posing and sculpting in Zbrush. However I wanted to utilize Unreal to add emissive objects and rect lighting to add the pink halo of light that covers most of the contours of the model. Lastly I added the background in After Effects.
One more shoutout to @alexgarnerart for a great concept.
